A fine set of two large, early 20th century carved hardwood Akuaba fertility dolls, handmade by the Ashanti People of Ghana. Traditionally carried by women on their backs and believed it to bring pregnancy and a healthy childbirth. The Ashanti women would dress up the embryo appearing figure with clothes and adorn with jewellery as role teaching. Measurements: 35cm in height, 10cm wide, 5cm deep.
