A mid/late 19th century Sorrento photograph album, inlaid wood with gilt edges. Contains about 20 photographs, mostly, as far as I can tell, of the South of France. Two, of women, are hand tinted. I'm not sure whether the photos were taken by the owners - it seems a lot more likely that they were bought and then added to the album. The back panel, also wood, has the word Cannes painted on the back.
The album shows generally acceptable wear on most surfaces. There are two clasps on the front cover that don't appear to connect to anything, yet there is no sign anything is missing (see third to last photo). Not all the pages in the album are full, one page is slightly torn and needs glueing back d own (see last photo).
The album must have been used again the 1940s - someone has written dates for 1945 and 1946 on about half the pages. A nice thing that needs some attention to make it the very attractive piece it can be. Dimensions: approx 6 and 1/4" x 4 and 1/2" and 2 and 1/8 deep. This item is in the category "Collectables\Photographic Images\Photograph Albums".
